I am looking at the design, and I like it EXCEPT for the huge plate that attaches to the bottom of the Z ram. I am afraid that with that thing sticking forward and back that far, I will have trouble clearing things like my CN dividing head, when doing rotary work.
I guess I could rotate the table itself, and mount the dividing head so it is to the right or left of the spindle in stead of behind it, but I am thinking about a way to move the ballscrews closer to the spindle centerline.
At first glance, I anticipate trouble with the belts hitting the headstock casting, but I wonder if it would work to use idlers to route the belts around the casting?
Or what if the motor/belts, etc were arranged as follows:
-move the rear and the front ballscrews as close as possible to the headstock(keeping them in front and behind)
-mount the drive motor directly to the right(X++) of the rear ballscrew.
-drive the rear ballscrew directly from the motor
-draw a line from the motor in the Y-- direction; draw another line from the front ballscrew in the X++ direction. Mount a double idler pulley at the intersection of those 2 lines.
-drive the idler from the double pulley on the mtor, and drive the front ballscrew from the double idler pulley. Like this:

Chuck built before moving. I'll post some information but it will only make sense if you

Chuck used a piece of 1"x2" approx. round stock, drilled for the ball-screw to pass through. He then drilled and tapped one end of the rod to 7/8 x 16 for the ball-nut to screw into. He bored the 42 tooth XL pulley on top to a 1" light press fit. Pressed the shaft and pulley together and used the set screw to hold it in place. Between the pulley and 1" collar on bottom are 1" ID needle roller bearings and washers.
The assembly "pulley and rod" are slipped through the aluminum angle which has (brass bushing in the hole) bearing on both sides collar slipped over the other end and
the ball-nut is used to preload the assembly then the 1" collar is tightened.
