Hi Andy,

I can set the speeds. Then I save the axis value. Leave the tuning dialog
and try it out in the main screen. With parallel port version you can muck
with the accel and velocity settings and use the arrow keys to try it out.
That doesn't work on my SS version.

John:

How can you possibly use a system on which the motor tuning doesn't work? I
cant believe the default tuning works for you.....

HI Lester,

It's a good question. I use the USB version of the smooth stepper. I'm
running a stable version of MACH and the USB driver and my only complaint is
that the motor tuning doesn't work. One of these day's I'll ask on the
MACH site if there's a solution to that.

I'm sure I'll have a supply of PCs for quite some time that can run either a
parallel port or have USB. I don't have any expectations or need to move up
to MACH4.

Had I the time I'd be considering moving to the LinuxCNC version but that's
more because I really don't ever want to move to WIN8 which smells to much
like VISTA to me and cost me hundreds of hours of lost billing and
productivity. However, the last time I tried Linux the learning curve for
everything was just as bad hence for now I'm still with Windows.

Now if Alibre (Geomatic), Protel (Altium), Freescale (CodeWarier), Codewrite
(Discontinued), MPLAB, Lightroom (Adobe) and a lot of the other applications
I use on a weekly basis ran transparently on Linux I might consider it. For
that matter if MACH ran with the USB SS on Linux one could run Linux on the
workshop PC. Since there is WINE, for Linux, has anyone tried running the
USB or Ethernet SS under that?
