Hugh,
The normal thing (for me anyway) is to adjust the table and saddle gibs
to provide the needed drag to prevent "snatching" under normal to medium
heavy climb milling. This will have to be determined by your experience
and trial and error. The table locks should not be used for drag too
often, as this will wear the gib unevenly at this spot as well as the
dovetail over this area. The slides should be easy to move but, not so
easy that you can shove the slide by hand without some real effort.
It all depends on the type of work you do and adjust accordingly.
No one adjustment will work for all and ever jobs.
