I've had reasonable success by loading the ball screw in one direction or the other, i.e. just leaning into the table to either
drive the table in the same direction as the movement or back against the drive. If one had serious backlash or really heavy
loading this this isn't going to help.

Better, or less worn, ballscrews are indeed the real fix.
