Opinion vs practical application:
My Shoptask is using single nutted ball screws I made from the McMaster Carr
5/8" stock. It has about .005" backlash on both axis's. Running with
backlash compensation noticeably improves the ability to hold tolerance on
the parts.
All the opinions in the world will not change this demonstratable fact.
OTOH, if I was doing it again I would put on double nuts and preload them
for zero backlash.
