I've very seriously considered the same thing. I recently had a bunch of
different broaching jobs doing internal keyslots indexed at different
angles. I ended up building a fixture to index, and putting the tool in a
boring bar holder in the locked spindle of my verticle mill. 40 or 50 drill
cycles later, I had my keyslot. Think verticle keyseater with a cnc
control. The tool was way too wide to make the slot without stepping
sideways. I had to make 40 slots total in 20 parts. I was originally going
to do the job in my shaper, but I was sure to screw up the job shortly after
I got bored.
