Good stuff on this post, but we forget to mention that you need more than
one transformer or a polyphase transformer for a three phase motor. I set
up a multi-spindle 480 drill press for a customer who uses 240 but the
spindles were only 480. Two single phase 480/220 transformers have done
the trick for nearly 20 years now.
