Hi, JJ:
I've not heard of a transformer with a center tapped primary.
If, indeed, the primary is center tapped, use only the full winding at the
higher voltage or either half of the winding at the lower voltate. Leave the
unused end 'floating,' do NOT tie the two outside wires together.
Now, if what you have is actually two windings (four wires) that can be set
up as either 120 or 240 volts, that's a different matter. In that case, you
tie the two 'bottom' ends together and the two upper ends together for 120
volt operation, or you tie the hi end of one to the low end of the other
and use the two outside wires for 240 volt operation.
