Big Iron machines generally use a BLAST of air through the spindle to make
sure there are no chips or debris left on the taper of the toolholder
(which dould lead to catastrophic failure of tool and workpiece).

re: lathe toolholders; check out Harbor Freight catalog. Sometines they
have quick-change (ALORIS-type) toolholder sets starting at $99.99 or
something like that.
