Tim,
Would it also be worth considering a "plane" arrangement where you
eliminate the saw completely and basically just pass a 4"(actually a bit
wider than your maximum work block) wide plane blade over the block.
The blade would need to be rigidly mounted and on rails - kind of like a
railway bogey which has a software controlled height control.
I'm sure this would work at the .050" thicknesses but would probably
fail at .200" due to the thickness of the blade. If it could be made to
work - you would get a lot more yield from a block and no sawdust...
Obviously the blade would have to be rigidly mounted.
