Don't worry. We will help you configure your software. It is pretty
straight forward for a Sherline as they are direct drive. So the steps
per inch is 20 (the turns/inch for the screw) times 200 (the base steps
per revolution on the motor) times the number of subdivisions in a step
you set the controller for (Full step = 1, half step = 2, 1/4 step = 4,
1/8th step = 8). So:
Full step (not recommended) 4000 steps/inch
Half step (better) 8000 steps/inch
1/4 step (even smoother) 16000 steps/inch and would limit you with
Master5 to about 30 ipm
1/8 step (smoother still) 32000 steps/inch and would limit you to about
15 ipm with Master5
In reality you may see a difference in performance between half and 1/4
step (maybe), but will probably not detect one between 1/4 and 1/8.

OK, next obstacle to letting us save you some dough? Heck I bet you
could get a number of list members to take you up on sending them the
mill, the parts, and the computer and getting back a running system for
$100 - $200. That is still a mighty savings over Flashcut and probably
could be done with a 1 - 2 day turn around. No, I am not offering as I
am already backed up.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jobshophomeshop I consider this as a
