Hi Todd,
I am not sure how I blew the Gecko.
I was eager to get things running, put a 470uF on the inputs, used
the correct resistor, wired up the motor and started running the
machine.
after a few timing runs and changing ramp and full speed to see what
it would do.... ka-BLEWie ! POP and the cap kinda leaked, the cap
opened up, it didn't pop or explode. It was connected properly.
I blew the 10A fuse on the 110VAC power supply. and the 10A on the
Gecko input. I didn't look at the fuses before I powered up to get
the proper sizes.
The large resistor on the right side of the Gecko, blew half the side
off.
I didn't find what the cause was, and a direct replacement was
installed and it has been running fine ever since. Of course, I put
in the correct size fuses and double checked all the wiring.
I didn't have the wire shield grounded on either end and the length
was about 8 feet. the Gecko was set for about 1.5 amps.
Since it was a 201 Rev A, and I bought at the closeout prices, I
chaulked it up to the gremlins in the machine.
I offered to send it back to the factory for their forensic review,
boxed it and then we cleaned the basement/shop and put the box
somewhere ???
The Steppers were Vexta, NEMA23, dbl stack, used off E-bay and it
still runs fine.
I assume that in my haste, I might have let a stray strand of wire
hit something, but if it started the whole mess, it blew off, never
to be seen again. A bug could have landed on some terminals or who
knows what ? I didn't get a chance to cut metal at that point.
