O.k my scope

belt
+ easy way to change transmition ratios
- adds to backlash and reduces efficency

direct drive
+ simple no losses, acurate
- requires high torque motor that matches requirements

I find a direct drive solution superior but probably
harder to implement sence you can't try out different
ratios, the motor has to be sized properly to start with.
Because higher torque motors are required it it gone be more
expensive.

they use 1000oz/in motors for this mill/drill type machine.
