I do climb milling on my CNC'd Bridgeport all the time. When machining
aluminum, especially,
climb milling makes a vastly better surface finish, as it does not mash
chips into the clean,
retreating surface. I always did a climb mill pass with a very thin cut
to clean up the surface
when it was a manual machine. But now, I program almost all my cuts for
climb milling.
It is also known to reduce tool wear, as it prevents the cutting edge
from skating along the
work surface. I DO have anti-backlash ballscrews.
