Unless you want high-resolution linear scales, I think you can do this
for a LOT less than 10 K,
even those smaller Cdn $! The ballscrews will be the most expensive
part, probably. In US $,
these run somewhere between $800 and 1200, I think. You should be able
to find decent encoders
for about $100 ea. with a little looking, sometimes much lower on eBay.
Servo motors should
be available surplus under $100 ea. Expect $250 or so for pulleys and
sprockets. Gecko Drives
are under $200 ea. My stepper driver board is $200. So, that comes to
something like US $2600
for a 3 axis conversion. Depending on how good a scrounger you are, you
might even be able
to do better.
