I was watching this thread here is my two cents
I am a Millwright and do a lot of repairs and rebuilds on cnc machines one
of which is robo drills. They have one of the best I have seen so far in
the way of tool changes it works off a rotary tool holder with out going
to deep here and now .
The low down is as follows when we want a tool change we go to the sub
program the head goes up and there is a cam on the rotary tool holder that
the folows a track on the side of the head as the head goes up the tool
holder starts to move into the head also there is a arm in the head that
releases the tooling in the head as the forks of the toolchanger is under
the spindle and the head has to be at the right hight .The tool changer is
then moved again out from the head . Now for the changing of the tooling
there is a smalle gear on the bottom of the spindle and one also on the
changer they ingage and the spindle turns as many rotations as needed and
moves the next tool into place and the head again moves up and installs
the tooling . this all happens in about 5 seconds or less I have never had
to check this out.
I will see if I can copy and do in my own words how it works if someone
want more info I will get some pics of the changer also.
This is just my Two cents I hope it does not confuse the issue
