Hello James;
Thanx for the feedback but I am not suggesting to use the Morse
Taper or Collets, but..
What I have in mind is to use the Sherline End Mill Holders
(http://www.sherline.com/3079pg.htm) as the quick change tool
holders and somehow have a carousel off to the side which offers the
tools up to the spindle, removes one and replaces with another.
These End Mill Holders DO NOT USE THE MORSE TAPER, here's the
description from the link http://www.sherline.com/3079pg.htm
-------------------------------------
This easy-to-use end mill holder screws onto the threaded end of the
mill spindle. End mills are held in place with a single set screw
that tightens against the flat on the side of the cutter.
These holders also make a good "quick-change" tool system. By
keeping your favorite cutters mounted up in their own holders,
changing cutters is a quick operation. Just unscrew one holder from
the spindle and thread on another.
Though this part may look simple, it is not easy to make. It must be
made very accurately to be of any use. They are made on a CNC
machine in a multi-step operation, with the threads being single-
pointed rather than tapped to assure a high degree of concentricity.
More details on how it is made are available in the instructions.
------------------------------------------
This means that we don't need to worry about unscrewing the draw bar
on the top of the spindle, and then having to break the lock onto
the morse taper.
Cheers
