As you will split the brains from the brawn, you may find a
convenient place to bring these signals to a header which allows you
to monitor the signal arriving to the power board.
This signal could indicate a simple go/no-go LED display
(voltage/clocking/etc), to a more involved com port output (to Visual
Basic Program) to verify detailed status.
Likewise, the output of the power section could terminate
additionally to a buffered or high impedence output header allowing
the safe verification of the modules output.
Of course the trouble is real world connection and to that end you
may offer a power module which senses errors, indicates an alarm
status (LED) and puts the FETs into high impedence mode reducing the
amount of current they can sink.
Typical amp designs assumed- steering/blocking diodes for shorts,
loss of rails, overvoltage.
A 'newbie' option might be a sister module with relays to cut all
power. Protection circuit on both sides of the relays and the motor
connects thru this additional stage.
I mean wow- 100:1?
I know you are on the right track.
