For $60 you get the Taig spindle, bearings and housing.
It needs a 5/8" bore pulley. They list a separate part number for the lathe and mill spindles, but I don't know what the difference is.
It mounts on a dovetail.
The Taig has a set of nose-close collets for under $30, including the nut.
The Taig lathe also has an optional riser block to make it swing 6".
The Sherline has a morse taper spindle. Does it come with a pulley?
It mounts similar to a Unimat, on a keyed flat surface and a stud.

Subject: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Sherline vs. Taig head
The sherline headstock assy. is $102.
Does the taig include a pulley? (With Taig you better be sure EXACTLY
what you're getting at any given price.)
This is not a bad thing; just that taig has often set real low prices
which don;t include everything needed to begin. The classic case is
their lathe. Cheap price. No motor, no pulley, no tailstock, etc.
Again, if they want to do this that's fine. and it is just a business
or marketing decision. But others should know that if you're
comparing apples, you need to have apples, and not an orange that
looks like an apple...
The sherline motor assy is $210.
And the whole headstock with motor and speed control is $300 for low
rpm, and $380 for 10K RPM.
And note that these prices were recently increased after many years
at the "old" prices.
Hope this informs,
Ballendo
P.S. What (exactly) do you get for the 60 bucks?
