For the money, you can't beat the Gecko. I have been using geckos for
milling, lathe, and cutting vinyl machine. Sometime, gecko are pushed to work
5x24 hours. I have no complain so far.
I will continue to use it for my next project.

to the stepper motors drives. Stepper motor drives are much more complex.
Steppers are pulsed at 10 -20 times their rated voltage. Then the voltage is
chopped to rated voltage at idle/hold. Seems like a recipe for problems. I
use the Gecko 320 servo drives and they are one tough little beast. Just the
other day I was drilling holes all day with the Gecko whipping the knee of
my Bridgeport up and down peck drilling and the servo warmed up but the
Gecko stayed nice and cool on the heatsink under the fan. When I was doing
my retrofit, I layed a Gecko320 down next to one of my Nema 42 servos and
was not convinced it was going to work. It's tiny in comparison. My motors
were 4.2" diameter X 17" long body, a bit shorter since I removed the brake.
There are pics of my machine on the CNC-pics group at yahoo. Yes, Gecko
320's control those servos with rapids on X an Y of 120 ipm and 60 ipm on Z.
Much to my amazement.
> I'm sold on them and wouldnt even consider using any other drive. 15
months of continual use and not one problem. I was concerned at first about
getting into the middle of a job and not being able to complete it because
of a possible drive failure. I've become very complacent about their
reliability. I even designed the enclosure so the drives on their heatsink
easily slide out of a slot in like a tree in front of the fan because I
thought I would be changing them occasionally. Waste of time.
