Yes, I had read that. I imagine if the wire is twisted loosely and the
solder is globbered on so thickly that it increases the "gage" of the wire one or
two points, this is valid. However, if one twists the wires snugly, leaving
a little excess-length on the tip, tins with FRESH, clean solder not full of
copper-solute, drawing the tip of the iron downwards, with the wire pointing
down, so that last drop falls off the end, THEN, clips the excess off the
wire-tip, the result will be VERY little "flowable tin" in the tip, and all the
strands will stick together as "one wire", rather than like a witch's broom
with some strands sticking all out, about, causing shorts! I've SEEN it, and
when pointed out to the fabricator, the response has often been, "So?"
