Not completely true- you can build an rpm to compile on the target
machine if needed. Its actually a very powerfull packager. I have a book
on it, and Its 'on my list' to learn how to use it, but from some quick
reading its not simple. In summary, you build a list of all files, and a
script which the install program will run.
