I do not know enough on the subject but I knew water was needed and was waiting for someone to throw it.

I think mentally we should separate the issues into three parts:

1: Get a Linux system up an running with the RT patch.
Play with it, have some test programs to verify that the kernel and system really works.

2: Install EMC in "demo" mode. Again have some EMC test programs.

3: Now finally when all the software works, hook up the hardware and fight those problems.

I see beginners stirring up all three problems in a big pot and then they have a terrible time.
