This should not be the case, at least with recent (6.0 or 6.1) Red Hat
packages. We have installed dozens of systems at work, and have not had
a failure to build in a long time. Boot the CD, answer a few simple
questions, and in about 15 minutes a working system boots. Some of the
other distributions are even simpler than Red Hat.

But, I should admit I have been a unix consultant for more than 10 years
and have installed many hundred systems, some very big mainframe class
with terrabytes of storage.

However, to get EMC running there must be a method that starts with a
package distribution. The EMC builders have more than enough work to get
just EMC packaged up without trying to duplicate what Red Hat does in
basic system install.
