You got that real close.

In general, what kind of pc are you trying with?
Is this a linux only install?
What happens after you answer all the install questions?
What Red Hat?
What rtlinux?
What EMC?

Well, the Linux install creates or copies thousands of files. The untar of
the rt copies hundreds of files. The rt compile creates two really
important files, bzImage, zimage, or vimage, and System.map or Symbol.map.
It also makes several modules.

EMC uses a couple hundred files to compile into a handful of critical ones.
The specific files needed depend upon the values that you place in the ini
file that the EMC reads when it starts to run.

A couple folk have reported that they had good luck with the linuxcnc.org
descriptions but as soon as I get the answers above, I can try to suggest
some things.
