We're going to get yelled at by the moderator any second, now, but ....

My understanding was that they couldn't use gasoline engines, as they
used an electric spark for ignition, but that Diesel was OK, as long as
it was hand-cranked. The phone thing is solved by having a phone booth
OUTSIDE the house.
