One interesting thing about Amish history is that they had
famous (to the Amish) inventors. These guys invented
all sorts of devices that conformed to the Amish beliefs.
They were all powered by wind, water power or animals.
They had some of the inventions are the farm that I toured.
I can't remember what they did but they were quite cleaver
within the constraints of what they were allowed.
I don't remember any steam engines.
