I'm sure some of 'em do use diesels (I know they use gasoline engines).
But, here'a a puzzler for you... I make guards for a company that makes
sawmill equipment, a lot of which goes to Amish craftsmen. They can't use
electric motors on the sawmills, but, instead, use Honda gasoline engines to
drive the blades and hydraulic pumps (yeah, they can use hydraulic cylinders
& motors). Guess what, though, the Honda uses an *electric* motor to start
the gasoline engine. And, not one Amish person has been ex-communicated for
that!
