It doesn't really matter. It's not the drawing that's the problem, it's
the refresh.

A 1024x768 screen with 16-bit color (High color, not True color),
refreshed at 70 Hz takes 1024x768x2x70 or 110 MB/sec of memory bandwidth
away from the CPU. That's before *any* changes are made to the screen,
like drawing nice widgets, or updating a DRO display. In fact, that
bandwidth would be used up with a black screen being displayed (at that
resolution / refresh). Drawing is also a problem, of course, but
refresh is always there.
