Dave,
Did your instructions discuss ground potential isolation in any
manner whatsoever? Mine didn't. Further I could not get an answer
from HCNC support on if, how and why it was necessary.
If it is needed, I'd think that either it should be stated clearly
in the instructions along with recommendations of appropriate
optoisolation boards, or the board should be redesigned to include
optoisolation of the DB25 port.
If not, perhaps some simple protocol to determine if a particular
configuration has isolation problems would be helpful. In my case,
both the PC and the power supply/HCNC board shared the same outlet
strip and thus the same ground...one would tend to think that was
adequate with properly grounded devices. Guess not.
