I hate to call all of the folks who have had to buy new 7062s
stupid. It just isn't true. If it was just one or two people,
maybe, but with a continuous demand week after week, something else
is happening.
If the instructions said to use an isolated port card, probably 75%
of those replaced would not have blown in the first place. But they
don't recommend such a card and "support" did not answer a specific
inquiry to that end.
Finally, if the 7062s are regarded as consumables and listed on the
spare parts web page, perhaps the volume discount could be passed on
to customers? I know they went from $15 to $12, (and $7 shipping
where $2.95 Priority Mail is available) but considering others sell
them for $8, maybe a reasonable margin is appropriate, or cheaper
shipping? My question now is: If you blow all 4 7062s by some rotten
stroke of luck, who are you going to buy them from; the $8 or the
$12 guy? Basically $35 or $53 for the same thing, shipping included.
If I learned anything from this whole mess, it was fourfold; first,
know your vendor better before buying, second optoisolated port
cards, third OPTOISOLATED PORT CARDS, fourth OPTOISOLATED PORT CARDS!
Take a look at Arturo Duncan's products at CNC4PC.com...he has some
nice items, and with his assistance, I was able to solve my issues.
