As a former member of said group (my problems were resolved, so I left
to keep my email volume down), I found that Dave R's message were
extremely terse, to the point that some might interpret them as rude or
unhelpful. I think Dave is simply minimizing the amount of time he
spends answering email. He's usually right about the common problems,
but his 'bedside manner' is brusque.

There are usually other customers on the list who offer more verbose
troubleshooting tips.

Given that it is an 'assembly-required' kit with very explicit
instructions and that the list archives contain everything one could
possibly want to know about the boards, I didn't have a problem with the
service. The price on the replacement chips is a bit steep, but the
shipping latency is extremely short, and perhaps one's own stupidity
/should/ be a little painful :*)

As far as posting information on his list about competitors with lower
prices.. well, it /is/ his list.
