B,

"Distance to go on rapid move with this would be pointless :-), by the time I looked at the DRO and mentally calculated the physical movement it would already be there and headed somewhere else..

Ron,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't feel any flame from you at all.

I'm not being clear.

I don't want to see the cutting ACTION, I want to see the resulting
cut. So no need to risk outrunnng a cutter! Once the motion
stops, move on in and give us a look at the just cut surface(s)...

As for the rest, I think there's a pretty WIDE gulf between what I
asked for and what you've suggested would be excessive.

Steppers or servos? is NOT "please tell us exactly which motors
you're using, where you bought them, how they're wired, etc".

Linear bearing type? is NOT "make, model number and mounting method"

Rack/pinion or ballscrew or? is similarly vague, but still provides
exactly the kind of info that WILL provide the impetus to expanding
the hobby that you're saying is your reason for posting these videos.

BTW, part of the reason I havn't posted pics of some of my machines
is that they have some features that other machines don't. And I
don't want those all over cnczone before I'm ramped up for
production. So I COMPLETELY understand the reasoning behind only
showing what you want to show.

But come on, steppers or servos? is not gonna give anyone a leg
up on what you've done...

Ballendo

P.S. I started bugging Art to add distance-to-go DRO's to Mach years
ago. He kept putting me off. Anyways, I think it's interesting that
now with machine speeds going up, we've got them.
(Cuz I first found them useful when operating high speed machines.
"Errr, hit the FH! How far is that thing gonna go from here?! Phew!
we're okay. I thought it was gonna run into something!"...)

few seem to have a problem with it. It was not my intent to start a
flame with anyone, I apologize for that. It was to show what can be
done with whats available to us hobbyists. If you're "Wow'd" by it
great. Personally, I'm wow'd by it. It's nice to show activity to go
along with words occasionally. If I had gotten on here and said "Hey
guess what, my router has 1800 ipm rapids" Do you think a few would
want me to prove it? I do, thats why I posted a video.

every feature of it's construction. That would be like me suggesting
that every vendor on the groups disclose all of their contacts and
sources for items they provide to hobbyists. And while there at it
post all their wiring diagrams and PCB files for their boards,
including source codes for firmware. And when they resist, insinuate
they aren't in this for the good of the hobby. Would that be fair?
