RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Musings on screw pitches

Yeah, there are obviously trade off's, you loose force, you get a bit more
wear. (is this what you were referring)
What I'm coming to realise is that my perception of the amount of
"deliverable torque" from an NEMA23 motor was falsely based on my
experiences trying to run them at >500RPM (from 24V). Armed with my new
understanding I'm starting to re-reference everything and am coming to
believe that the small machines (little gantry routers, 20" lathes etc) just
don't load the axis drives (motors and screws) appreciably. Put another
way: I used to think that the reason my machines were slow was because I
used small motors. I now believe that they were slow because I designed them
that way.
I realise that speed is a relative concept , but IMHO more speed is
generally better.
