I would disagree about the orientation ruling out a lead screw. There is no reason that the lead screw and stepper couldn't all be located on the Z axis and the Nut be fixed to the Y axis. It does have it's drawback's due to the z axis having to lift a bunch of extra weight but it is totally do-able..
I'm curious to see what is what w/ this machine.. but I can wait until the time when its released to the public. I'm working on some of my own idea's that are 'non-standard' in the milling side of things and when I post my video's, it won't show the entire machine either.. I can understand the reasoning behind it. None the less, it makes for great video's!

Now Mariss, its your turn... lets see this insanely fast linear slide test... 3000 rpm w/ 200 step/rev & 10uStep is 6Mhz.. thats humming...

This is the stuff that keep's me going on my project.. [8 mnth's and over 1500 hr's of work so far..] so anyone else who wants to add to the pot.. by all mean's send us those vid's..
