Re: Are steppers considered low frequency motors?

It depends on what you are comparing them against. Steppers are
considered high-torque, low-RPM, 2-phase synchronous AC motors.
Servomotors are high-RPM, low-torque motors by comparison.

Microstepping per se doesn't change the physics of the motor; the
motor is what it is. Microstepping and parametric resonance
compensation (mid-band instabilty) tames the motor of most of its
vices, the obnoxious tendency to oscillate or vibrate.

The motor appears to have more power when these techniques are
applied. That is only because the motor is kept from wasting its
power in useless resonance.

Microstepping covers the zero to 2 revs/sec range, parametric
resonance compensation covers the 5 to 15 revs/sec range. Put
together and you end up with a well-mannered motor.

Not sure if that answers your question though.
