Also, consider that even if the bulk of machinists use windows these days,
they probably aren't passionate about what operating system their machine
controller is running. I've been running debian for the last five years, so
that biases me a little bit. Unless you are wedded to a particular windows
gui library, you shouldn't have any trouble writing a linux gui.
What kind of application are you thinking of writing? Is it something that
would be useful to build into emc? There are a fairly large number of people
using it, I think, and it has an active developer community, so if you add
your code to emc, more people may end up using it.
