Hey Danny,
Depending on the size of the ID feature, you could probably do away
with the slit by drilling a hole (depending on the density of the
foam, either drilling from both ends with a long extension drill bit
or simply pushing a stiff rod through) and feeding the cutting wire
through before connecting it to the power source. This is how a wire
EDM is used to cut internal features.

Just an idea I thought of.
