Dan

Dan Falck and I have been working on a "kit" to run ball screws on the
8689 Grizzly. We should have mounts and screws complete in a couple of
weeks.

IMHO - You don't want to run ball screws with manual milling because the
table will run away if you take your hands off the cranks. The acme
threads have enough resistance to cutting forces transfered to the bed
that they will not run away but the ball screws do not! You can tighten
the brakes some here but that's risky.

If what you want is dro, I'd suggest linear scales, rack and pinion, or a
wire driven encoder, and one of the computer dro systems talked about on
the list.
