I think this is a good move. There is definitely a demand for these higher
voltage drives as indicated in the responses.
I used the IRF840's due to getting a deal on them, they are intended for a
smaller
drive for sure. I finally used IGBT's in the final design for a demo.
Also, if using PWM, you will get inductive spikes at turnoff no matter how
good the design!
How you supress/control them is the key to protecting the devices.
