Tim,
Try any large building demolition company. When we demolish large
buildings, all transformers and circuit breaker panels are saved. Of course
all wire is taken and sold for copper. Often, small to medium sized control
transformers are saved and piled up till someone determines whether they
contain copper or aluminum wire. At that point, many go into the scrap heap.
IF they are not damaged, they are free..... The copper ones may cost just a
little.
Another place to try would be HVAC contractors. They use many transformers
in the computer controls for airhandlers, chillers etc. They are a good
source for 3 phase motors and VFD's too. Often a building will upgrade a
certain control system to another brand or type. All the control electricals
are taken out and scrapped.
Electricians specializing in computer rooms would be a good source too.
