A "power transformer", whether to change incoming voltage up or down, is at
least an "isolation transformer". As such, even if "mil-grade" and attached
with solid-platinum bolts, it is cheaper than your expenses will be if you
fool around with "line-voltage operated" circuitry like you propose! NEVER,
NEVER, NEVER contemplate anything "electronic" without a "power transformer"
with at least "decent" galvanic isolation between incoming primary winding
and ALL secondaries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
