Alan,
Consider milling a 90 deg angle at what would be your
"Home". Then you could use an edge finder to locate Home any
time you wanted.

edge mateing with a vise jaw? Does the part fit a jig in
only one position? If either of these are true, you should
be able to locate the part with one point.
