Hi group,
I think I have found the problem which was causing RTlinux and EMC not
to load properly on my computer - by changing the computer!! As I was
getting the same old errors and hang ups time after time and getting
older and greyer by the minute, I decided to change my motherboard and
processor for the one in my daughter's computer and try that. First
attempt using Tim's script everything loaded OK and RT loaded up and
would do the 'Frank Zappa' test. I then loaded EMC and this gave a
slightly brighter spark of life than before. I still don't have
minimod.o which prevents most of the example progs running but I did
get
Shvbase.run to work as far as producing the xemc screen - it would'nt
do
anything beyond that. I do now have the steppermod.o file which wasn't
present in previous attempts to load.
Today, however, things seem to have regressed and I am mystified. I can
still run sim.run but the only ones I can get any life out of are those
wanting minimod.o which say 'starting emc' and occasionally 'cleaning
up
old emc' but then stop at the 'installing motion modules' bit as they
can't find the minimod file. The rest of them are acting completely
daft
and, when I issue the ./run.mymill instruction ( or whatever file I am
trying to start), I get a message saying that the 'file or directory
does not exist'. I tried using the first line of emc.run and copying
the
remaining contents of various run files into the rest of
a new file and, each time, I get first a 'permission denied' message
and
then, when I do a chmod 777 (***.***), if gives me the 'file does not
exist' message. Also today, I notice that the rt_shed etc modules are
not loaded when the machine boots up. The literature on RTlinux seems
to suggest that they should be there automatically - if so am I doing
something wrong - should I have done something to make these modules
load at start-up time and do you know why I can't get
at the files which it will happily list and show me with the 'less'
command but won't execute?
I guess that this motherboard thing is perhaps something to put on the
'list of potential problems' for newbies? I seems to be something with
the way the bios handles memory over 16Mb (or doesn't!)
Thanks
Best wishes
Ian
