Hi Gene,
Sounds like you are trying to make things too complicated...;o)
To use MDI, first hit the F1 key to get the machine out of ESTOP, then hit
the F2 turn it 'ON' so the top two boxes on the screen should now read
'Estop Reset' and 'Machine on'. Good. Now hit the F5 key for MDI mode (F3 is
manual, F4 is auto and F5 is MDI). Type a single command into the MDI window
(like G1x1.5y2.5z0.5F3 or somethinf similar) and then just hit the ENTER key
on the LETTERS part of the keyboard - not the one that says 'enter' but the
big one with the bent arrow on it! This should then make the machine move to
the appropriate place and the figures on the screen should change to reflect
the machine movement.
You can only use the MDI mode for doing single moves although these may be
complex moves in any number of the axes which the program is set up to do.
In the example quoted, assuming you are working in inch measurements, the
table should move smoothly to the left and towards you so that the tool
traces a diagonal path to a point 1.5" right and 2.5" back from its starting
point and either 0.5" above or 0.5" below its starting point in the vertical
direction depending on the way you have programmed the 'Z' axis to move
would be as well to check this first as it can be quite difficult to get the
tool out from 1/2" below the table surface...
Best wishes,
Ian
