I like it! I was thinking of just regulating motor current to limit
closing torque. The mechanics will already be complicated enough what
with having to be able to take it apart easily for transport (no pun
intended) and he wants an emblem on the door that swings back out of
the way as the doors open. So the inside emblem is mounted on one
door, the outside emblem on the other.

This won't be an outside door, so I don't need to worry about locking
it. It will be used as part of a space ship bridge set, and as a
stand-alone door into a hotel room.
