Steve,
self contained units for this purpose are called "actuators", and
Ball Screws and Actuators in San Jose will be a good place to start.
They are OFTEN available surplus. Try the std dealers, surplus
direct,Herbach and rademan, C&H, MECI, Alltronics, etc. find more in
nuts and volts magazine, or a hobby electronics mag.

P.S. Remember, you probably don't need a servo drive. just a motor
and some limits. Also, I don't know where to look, but these must
also be available as surplus when stores with automatic doors are
closed/upgraded....

group, but I don't know where else to ask this:
I have been commissioned to build an automatic sliding door. It is a
very custom design, that is why the client isn't just buying a
standard
off the shelf door.
I'm figuring using a Ballscrew would fit the requirements<snip>
