the problem you'll find with using Freon tanks is that all new Freon tanks
has a check valve in them which will not allow pressure to go back into them
. it keeps people from reusing these tanks. You can easily pull a vacuum on
them but the check valve will not allow pressure to refill the tank you'll
need to open the valve turned the tank upside-down them with a small pen of
some kind to hold this valve opened this is a gravity check valve or no
sprains in it.simply a small desk used as a seal for the valve seat.

I have used the freon bottles for vacuum reservoirs up to 27" or so. Worked
fine. The only problem was eliminating a vacuum leak in the valve stem as it
was not designed to keep gas from being sucked in. Ended up just using some
non-hardening pipe dope and opened the valve all the way, smeared it on the
threads and then closed the valve and repeated. Once it was worked into the
threads the vacuum leak stopped and has not returned in the 8 or so years
since I set it up.
