I have used 4" schedule 40 pipe as a vacuum reservoir and it does work just
fine. Used it on a pump that maxes out at about 23" of vacuum. The reservoir
is about 16" long with the matching pipe caps cemented on to seal it. The
tap is drilled through the side in the middle of the pipe.
