The original Fenner Taper lock is quite cheap, has a keyway cut in
the insert and can be used on shafts having a quite wide tolerance.
In fact that's what they were originaly brought out for. They can be
used on a shaft up to 0.010" under size and still lock up. I've seen
these fings fitted to large generators with shafts like plowded
fields and they have still gripped and driven.
